project - Android XR
An ambient AR desk surface built natively for pre-release Android XR smart glasses, with on-device AI and voice.
I built a working app on pre-release Android XR smart glasses during Google’s Project Aura hackathon, before the hardware or SDK were public, and earned Google Trusted Developer status. I kept building afterwards: Aura Desk turns a physical desk into an ambient computing surface with glanceable widgets anchored in the user’s space, and handles natural-language requests hands-free with on-device AI.
Built a working app on pre-release Android XR smart glasses during Google’s Project Aura hackathon, before the hardware or SDK were public, and earned Google Trusted Developer status.
Built the Aura Desk MVP natively with the Jetpack XR SDK in Kotlin, with glanceable Pomodoro, task, calendar, and music widgets anchored to the desk.
Integrated on-device AI and voice commands so the surface handles natural-language requests hands-free, with no internet connection.
Worked through unreleased-hardware constraints firsthand: streaming crashes, firmware flashing, and SDK gaps on an undocumented device.
